National Awards Program
ACHMM has a number of annual awards that identify both individuals and chapters that have outstanding achievements and accomplishments in the field of hazardous materials management. Nominations for these awards are evaluated by members of the awards committee and the final selection is approved by the ACHMM Board of Directors. Recognition is in the form of a certificate and/or plaque and is given at the annual ACHMM national meeting.

Pete Cook Founders Award
This individual award is given to the peer nominated member of the Academy who has provided long term service or continuous professional achievements while promoting the vision and mission of the Academy.
Young CHMM of the Year
This peer nominated award recognizes the brightest and best of the young CHMMs (35 years of age or younger) who has made significant accomplishments in the environmental, health and safety field while promoting the vision and mission of the Academy. Only one CHMM will be recognized in the years this is awarded.
Hazardous Materials Manager of the Year
Another individual award is given to those Academy members over the age of 35 who have demonstrated skills in operations, planning, training and education. This is an annual award that recognizes only one CHMM in the years it is given.
Special Achievements for the ACHMM
This individual award recognizes senior members of the Academy who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of environmental, health and safety during the previous calendar year.
Champions of Excellence
Nominees shall complete a minimum of five criteria to be considered for this individual award. There is no limit on the number of nominees that each Chapter may submit.
Friend of the Academy Award (Non-CHMM)
This is a new award for the Academy, as it was established in 2003. The Academy President or Board of Directors will select the recipient of this award. This individual award will be given to a person who is not a CHMM but has made significant contributions to the CHMM credential or to the overall goals of the Academy at a national level.
Unsung Hero Award
Another new award for 2003 recognizes either a CHMM or non-CHMM that has contributed to either the Chapter or the Academy in a unique and significant way. The nominee must have contributed their skills, time, and effort towards furthering the vision, mission and strategy of the Academy.
Chapter of the Year
This award is given to the local chapter which achieves the best combined accomplishments in the area of new member recruitment, successful CHMM overview course, membership service activities, mentoring activities and credential promotion during the previous calendar year. Additionally, Chapters that submit for this award must also meet the requirements of Honor Roll of Champions.
Honor Roll of Champions
This award recognizes chapters for their outstanding contributions in the field of education, training, research, development and performance in the field of hazardous materials management. To be eligible for this award, the chapter must meet all of the five required criteria and five out of nine optional criteria.
Chapter Website Award
This is a new award category for the Academy as it started in calendar year 2000. The purpose is to recognize the website that provides information to chapter members as well as the environmental, health and safety community. There are required as well as optional criteria that must be met to qualify for this award.
Sponsor Appreciation Award
This group award may be given to a private corporation, public agency, non-profit organization or an educational institution. .The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding support by an outside group that advances the objectives of the Academy.
